Tajikistan is a mountainous landlocked country located in the heart of Central Asia. The country is a place of a beautiful nature and home to many ancient cultures. It has beautiful snow-capped rugged mountains  of Pamir that hide numerous pristine alpine lakes and have a lot of hiking trails that will be appreciated by enthusiastic nature lovers. Pamir is translated as the ‘roof of the world’ referring to its mountain tops that touch the sky. The country has a great history and culture too. It is definitely worth seeing the beauty and majesty of Pamir mountains and the best way to do that is to take the highway of Pamir of Tajikistan. The highway starts in Dushanbe and goes all the way for 1 325 km to the city of Osh in Kyrgyzstan. Therefore you can start your tour either in the capital city of Dushanbe or by entering the country from borders with Kyrgyzstan. The highway goes through the high mountain passes having its highest point on the pass of Ak-Baital (4 655 m). It goes along the Afghan border where you can visit interesting villages of Murgab, Langar, Yamchun, Khorog, and Kalai Khum. These villages are remarkable by Wakhi people and their interesting well preserved culture and traditions. They are distinct from those of tajik people.
