As far as you know, the Kyrgyz are a nomadic people, therefore, their clothes had to be solid and warm. Clothes were made from wool, cotton, coarse wool and leather of various animals. In the cold times, many Kyrgyz wore a long sleeved felt jacket called “kementay”, and boots also made out of felt. Men and women alike favor is a "chapan" coat.

The outfits represented the person's social class, marital status, and age. For example, such trousers as "chalbar" and "kandagay" were worn only by heroes (baatyrs) and rich people. Сoarse top and large trousers are male traditional clothing, as well as a sleeveless jacket, shoes, and a special white wool hat known as "ak-kalpak". Ak-kalpak is a Kyrgyz national hat that men wear to this day. By the way, in Kyrgyzstan, the day of ak-kalpak is celebrated on March 5. Traditional women's clothing: “koynok” dresses, swing skirt - “beldemchi”, headdresses – “elechek”, “shokulo” hat, cap “takyya” and others. Soft leather boots with lightweight outsole ichigi or maasa.
